# 911 with a Callizy number

Register the address of each number and know what happens when someone dials 911.

- Role: Manager
- Duration: 4 min
- On: Web, Mac, iPhone, Android
- Learning Centre: https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/le-911
- Manager path · Lesson 2
- Open this screen in Callizy: https://app.callizy.ca/en/manager?view=numbers

## Before you start

- Be a manager on the Callizy account.
- The address where each number is used: the office, the clinic, the home.

## Step by step

6 steps, about 4 min.

Screenshots show Callizy in French. Button names are given in English.

### 1. Open the number (10 s)

In **Numbers**, click your line, then the **Settings** tab. Scroll down to **Emergency address (E911)**.

Menu: Administration › Numbers › your number › Settings

### 2. Read its status (10 s)

The badge shows where the address stands: **Registered**, **Registration in progress**, **Rejected** or **Not declared**. Without an address, the card says “Missing”.

### 3. Declare the address (1 min)

Click **Edit**. Fill in **Street**, **Apt/Suite (optional)** if needed, **City**, **Province** and **Postal code**. Click **Declare this address**. A US number needs an address in the United States.

### 4. Wait for registration (2 min)

Callizy shows “Address sent. Registration takes a few minutes.” The badge turns to **Registered** when it is done. The card updates on its own.

### 5. Do it for every number (1 min)

Each number has its own address. A number bought after you went live has none: declare it right away.

### 6. Test with 933 (1 min)

Dial 933 from Callizy: an automated message reads back the registered address. Never call 911 to run a test.

## Key points

- Dialed in Callizy, 911 sends the number’s registered address, not where you are. Somewhere else, say your location out loud.
- Without internet or power, 911 may not work. Keep a mobile phone or a landline for emergencies.
- Moving? Change the address of every number.

## Settings

- **When you go live**: The 911 step asks for the main number’s address, then the **I have read and accept the 911 information** box. The **Learn more about 911** link opens the [911 with Callizy](https://callizy.ca/en/legal/911) page.
- **Outside Canada and the United States**: When you go live, **I’m not in Canada or the United States**: no address to declare. 911 isn’t available there: use the local emergency number from a mobile phone.

## Not working?

### Callizy shows “This address couldn’t be verified. Check the spelling and postal code.”

1. Check the street name, the city and the postal code.
2. The badge turns to **Rejected**: correct the address, then click **Declare this address** again.

### Callizy shows “The address couldn’t be saved. Please try again in a moment.”

1. A registration may be in progress: wait a few minutes, then try again.
2. If the message comes back, write to support.

### Callizy shows “Postal code expected like H1G 1N9.”

1. Enter the full Canadian postal code: letter, digit, letter, then digit, letter, digit.

### Callizy shows “Fill in the street, city, province and postal code.”

1. Only **Apt/Suite (optional)** is optional.

### The badge stays on Registration in progress

1. It usually takes a few minutes. After an hour, write to support.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does 911 work in the app on my cell phone?

Yes. Dialed in the Callizy app, 911 goes out through Callizy, with the number’s registered address. Dialed with your cell phone’s own phone app, outside Callizy, it goes through your mobile carrier.

### Which number do emergency services see?

The number chosen for the call, if it has a registered address. Otherwise, Callizy presents another number of your business that has one.

### Does 911 work during the trial?

Yes. The trial limit doesn’t block a call to 911, or to 933.

### Does my number transferred from another carrier have an address?

It takes the temporary number’s settings, 911 address included. Check it in its **Settings** tab.

### Where can I read 911’s limits?

On the [911 with Callizy](https://callizy.ca/en/legal/911) page, and in section 7 of the [Terms and Conditions of Sale](https://callizy.ca/en/legal/terms).
