# Missions: a specific scenario for the agent

Frame one part of the conversation, like taking a message.

- Role: Manager
- Duration: 5 min
- On: Web, Mac
- Learning Centre: https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/missions
- Open this screen in Callizy: https://app.callizy.ca/en/manager?view=ai-agents

## Before you start

- Your AI receptionist: see [Create and test your AI receptionist](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/creer-sa-receptionniste).
- For an appointment mission: a calendar linked to the agent, see [Have the agent book appointments](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/rendez-vous-agent).

## Step by step

6 steps, about 5 min.

Screenshots show Callizy in French. Button names are given in English.

### 1. Open the missions (20 s)

Open your agent, **Actions** tab, then **Missions**. Four missions are already written, turned off: **Take a message**, **After hours**, **Book an appointment** and **Appointment confirmation**.

Menu: Administration › AI voice agents › your agent › Actions › Missions

### 2. Read one (1 min)

Click a mission’s pencil. **Instructions**: what the agent does in this part of the call. Adapt them to your business, then **Save**.

### 3. Turn it on (10 s)

The switch on the line turns the mission on. The two appointment missions need a calendar linked to the agent: without one, the switch stays locked.

### 4. Or create your own (2 min)

Click **Add a mission**. A **Mission name**, then the **Instructions**: write them as if briefing a new employee. **Opening message (optional)**: left empty, the agent keeps its usual greeting. Click **Create mission**.

### 5. Assign it in a flow (1 min)

In your call flow, click an **AI agent** block. Choose the **Mission (optional)**. **Details for this branch (optional)**: one sentence for this branch, for example “Marc Tremblay is away all week, back on Monday.”.

### 6. Test (1 min)

On the agent’s card, click **Test**. Under **Test a mission (optional)**, choose the mission, then **Call me**.

## Key points

- A mission frames one part of the call. It adds to the agent’s base behavior, without replacing it.
- The agent’s answer setting uses them. **Outside opening hours**: **After hours** when you are closed, **Take a message** when nobody answers. **When nobody answers**: **Take a message**. Choosing that setting turns the mission on.
- A mission is kept as soon as you save it: no need for **Update**.
- Only missions that are on can be chosen in a flow or a test.

## Not working?

### Callizy shows “Link a calendar (Google or Microsoft) to this agent to enable this mission.”

1. **Actions** tab, **Appointment booking**: link your calendar, then click **Update**. Square and Wix count too.

### Callizy shows “Save the agent first to create missions.”

1. Create the agent with **Create agent**, then come back to **Missions**.

### Callizy shows “Couldn't save the mission.”

1. Try again in a moment.

### The mission does not show up in the flow or the test

1. Turn it on: only active missions are offered.
2. In the flow, choose the agent first: the list shows that agent’s missions.

## Frequently asked questions

### How is it different from the agent’s instructions?

The instructions apply to every call. A mission applies to one branch of the flow: someone away, closing time, an appointment.

### One mission for several branches?

Yes. **Details for this branch** tells them apart: one sentence per branch.

### I deleted a starter mission. Does it come back?

Yes, turned off. To stop using it, just leave it off.
