# Choose your outgoing caller ID

Let Callizy pick the local number based on the area code you call, or set your preferred number.

- Role: Everyone
- Duration: 2 min
- On: Web, Mac, iPhone, Android
- Learning Centre: https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/numero-affiche
- Open this screen in Callizy: https://app.callizy.ca/en/dashboard

## Before you start

- At least two numbers in the company. With only one, that one always shows.

## Step by step

6 steps, about 2 min.

Screenshots show Callizy in French. Button names are given in English.

### 1. Open the dialer (10 s)

Click **Dial a number**, the keypad next to the search. The **Call or text** window opens. Under **From**: the number your customer will see.

### 2. Pick a number (10 s)

Click the number under **From**: the list shows every company line, with its name. Pick one: it stays selected until you close the tab.

### 3. Or let Callizy choose (20 s)

At the top of the list, **Automatic**: “Local number based on the dialed area code”. Calling a 604? Callizy uses your 604 line, if you have one. Before the call, the button shows the number it picked.

### 4. Set your preferred number (10 s)

Click the star to the right of a line: “Preferred number set”. The dialer opens on it, and **Automatic** uses it when no line has the right area code. Click the star again to remove it.

### 5. From a conversation (10 s)

Calling a customer back from their conversation? The call goes out from that thread’s number, the one the customer knows. With several lines, the header says so: “via”, then the line’s name.

### 6. In the app (20 s)

On the **Keypad**, the **Call from** chip shows the number that will appear: tap it to change it. The choice stays on this phone. You can also set it in the app’s settings, **Telephony**, **Outgoing number**.

## Key points

- Your calls always go out from a company number, never from your cell phone.
- A conversation calls back from its own number.
- AI agent and power dialer numbers aren’t in the list.

## Settings

- **How Automatic chooses**: First, the number already shown to that same number: “remembered” appears. Otherwise, a line with the same area code, for Canada and the United States; 604 and 778 count as two area codes. Otherwise, your preferred number, then the first line.
- **Preferred outgoing number**: You can also set it in **My Profile**, **Telephony preferences** section, then **Save**.

## Not working?

### The customer sees the main number, not the one you picked

1. In **Automatic**, only the dialer picks by area code. From contacts or the call list, the call goes out from the main number.
2. Pick a specific line in **Dial a number**: it then applies to the whole tab.

### “Automatic” doesn’t show up

1. With a single line, there’s nothing to choose.
2. The iPhone and Android apps don’t have it: pick the number on the **Keypad**.

### Callizy shows “Could not save”

1. The star wasn’t saved: try again in a moment.

### Callizy shows “No number available”

1. The company has no line for your calls yet: see [Buy a local or toll-free number](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/acheter-un-numero).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is my choice kept for the next call?

On the web, until you close the tab; after that, the dialer goes back to your preferred number. In the app, the choice stays on the phone.

### Can I show my cell phone number?

No: your calls always go out from a company number.

### Why isn’t the AI agent’s number in the list?

AI agent and power dialer lines are reserved for them: they aren’t used for calls you make by hand.
