# Transfer your number from another carrier

For any Canadian carrier: what to find, keep and ask for before the transfer.

- Role: Manager
- Duration: 25 min
- Learning Centre: https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/quitter-autre-operateur

## Before you start

- Be the account holder with your carrier, or authorized for the business.
- Access to your customer account, or your latest bill.
- For a cell phone: the phone with its current SIM card, turned on, on the day of the transfer.

## Step by step

7 steps, about 25 min.

Screenshots show Callizy in French. Button names are given in English.

**At your carrier**

### 1. Find your account number (2 min)

It is on your bill, with the account holder’s name and the service address. Copy it digit by digit.

### 2. Download your latest bill (2 min)

From your carrier’s customer account. It must show the account holder’s name, the service address and the numbers to transfer.

### 3. Transfer PIN and IMEI (1 min)

For a cell phone, Canadian carriers ask for only one of these: the **account number**, the **account password or PIN**, or the phone’s **IMEI**. So the account number is enough. Your carrier did not give you a transfer PIN? Leave the field blank in Callizy. For a landline, what counts is the account holder’s name and the service address: write them as on the bill.

### 4. Under contract? Check your terms (5 min)

Are you under contract? Fees may apply under your terms with your carrier: check them in your agreement or with your carrier. Without a contract, there are no fees to leave. Voicemail messages do not follow the number: listen to the ones you want to keep before.

### 5. Keep the line active until the end (4 to 8 days)

Do not cancel anything before the transfer is complete: a cancelled number can no longer be transferred. For a cell phone, keep the SIM card in the phone, turned on: a confirmation text arrives on this number on the day of the transfer. Reply within 90 minutes. Not received? Call your carrier: its validation team can authorize the transfer.

**In Callizy**

### 6. Do the transfer in Callizy (10 min)

With the account number and the bill, make the request in Callizy. Write your carrier’s name in **Carrier**, then the name and address exactly as on the bill. Everything is explained in [Transfer your current number to Callizy](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/transferer-son-numero).

**After the transfer**

### 7. Once the transfer is complete, close the old service (5 min)

Wait until Callizy writes to tell you the transfer is complete. Usually, the service for the transferred number is cancelled on its own. If the number still shows on your account, ask your former carrier to remove it. To cancel another service, contact them.

## Key points

- Do not cancel anything before the transfer is complete.
- The name, address and account number must be exactly those on the bill.
- For a cell phone, reply to the confirmation text within 90 minutes.
- The transfer is free with Callizy.

## Not working?

### Your carrier refuses the transfer

1. Compare the account holder’s name, the service address and the account number with those on the bill, letter by letter.
2. Check that the number is still active with your carrier.
3. In Callizy, open the transfer in **Numbers** and click “Correct the request”: the request is sent again.

### Confirmation text not received

1. Check that the current SIM card is in the phone, turned on, with a signal.
2. Without a reply within 90 minutes, the request is cancelled. Call your carrier: its validation team can authorize the transfer so the request is sent again.
3. Then write to support@callizy.ca, with the number concerned.

## Frequently asked questions

### My carrier does not have its own guide.

These steps apply to any Canadian carrier. Leaving Quo, RingCentral or Google Voice? They have their own guide: [Quo](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/quitter-quo), [RingCentral](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/quitter-ringcentral) and [Google Voice](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/quitter-google-voice).

### I do not have a bill (prepaid plan).

Write to support@callizy.ca before you start: Callizy’s transfer request requires a bill.

### Can my business landline move?

Yes, if it is a Canadian number. An alarm connected to the line must be turned off before the transfer. Internet tied to the line may be cut by the current carrier.

### Does my carrier charge for leaving?

Only if you are under contract: check your terms with your carrier. With Callizy, the transfer is free.
