## Before you start

- Be a manager on the Callizy account.
- For the United States: a Callizy local number, your federal business number (BN) and a card on file.
- For a toll-free number: the Callizy toll-free number and your business information.

## Step by step

9 steps, about 6 min.

Screenshots show Callizy in French. Button names are given in English.

### 1. Open the Trust center (10 s)

In **Administration**, click **Settings**, then **Trust center**. Three blocks: **Texting US numbers**, **Toll-free numbers** and the “Scam Likely” label.

Menu: Administration › Settings › Trust center

**To the United States**

### 2. Start the application (10 s)

From a local number, texting Canada works right away. To text US numbers, click **Register**. Callizy fills in what it already knows about your business.

### 3. Describe the business (2 min)

**Business** step: **Legal name**, **Business type**, **Federal business number (BN)**, **Industry**, **Website**, **Business email** and address. The BN has 9 digits; a Quebec NEQ alone is not accepted by carriers. A Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook address is often refused.

### 4. Name the representative (30 s)

**Representative** step: the person who answers for the business, owner, executive or manager. **First name**, **Last name**, **Email**, **Phone** and **Title**.

### 5. Describe your texts (2 min)

**Texts** step: check the **Local numbers that will text the US**. Choose **What your texts are for**, describe them in one or two sentences and give two samples, with “Reply STOP to opt out”. Finally, say **How your customers give consent**.

### 6. Send and pay (20 s)

Click **Send and pay $27.00**. Carrier fees are passed through at cost: $27 once on your card, then $3 per month on your subscription.

### 7. Follow the status (20 s)

Three rows: **Your business (brand)**, **Your texts (campaign)** and **STIR/SHAKEN**, already **Approved**. The brand is reviewed first; the campaign is sent as soon as it is approved. Your texts to the US go out once the campaign is **Approved**.

**From a toll-free number**

### 8. Enable the number’s texting (3 min)

Under **Toll-free numbers**, click **Enable texting** on the number’s row. Fill in **Your business**, **Contact person** and **Your texts**, then **Send the application**. It is free; each toll-free number has its own application. The same button is on the number’s page, in **Numbers**.

### 9. Wait for the answer (10 s)

Carriers answer within days, sometimes weeks. Meanwhile, the toll-free number can call, but no text goes out, not even to Canada.

## Key points

- Texting Canada from a local number: nothing to do.
- To the US from a local number: one application for the business, $27 once, then $3 per month.
- From a toll-free number: one free application per number, before any text.

## Settings

- **The statuses**: **To do**, **Under review**, **Approved** or **Rejected**. A rejection shows its reason under the block.
- **After a rejection**: Fix the information, then **Resubmit**. For the US, fees already paid are not charged again.
- **The banner in the conversation**: While a registration is missing or under review, a banner says so above the field, with a link to the **Trust center**.

## Not working?

### Callizy shows “Texting a US number from a local number requires a carrier registration. Do it in the Trust center.”

1. Complete the **Texting US numbers** application.
2. Already sent? Nothing goes out before **Approved**.

### Callizy shows “This toll-free number is not yet verified for texting. Enable texting from the Numbers page.”

1. Click **Enable texting** on the number.
2. Application under review? Wait for the carriers’ answer.

### Callizy shows “The business number must be the federal BN: 9 digits (e.g. 123456789RC0001).”

1. A Quebec NEQ alone is not enough: enter the federal BN.

### Callizy shows “Your card was declined.”

1. The owner updates the card in Settings › Billing, then you resubmit.

### Callizy shows “You have no local number. Registration only applies to local numbers.”

1. Buy a local number: see [Buy a local or toll-free number](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/acheter-un-numero).

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need the client’s consent before texting them?

Yes. Before your first text, you need their permission: they text you first, they tell you on the phone, or they tick a box on your website. See [Texts and CASL](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/textos-lcap).

### Does a verified toll-free number need the US application?

No. US registration only applies to local numbers.

### Is there a texting limit?

Your plan counts 500 texts per month. Texts you send in the app are never blocked. Automated sends, through the API or Zapier, stop at that cap unless the owner turns on usage billing: $0.02 per text. They are also limited to 20 per minute.
