# Texts and CASL

Consent, identification and unsubscribe: the rules for texting your customers.

- Role: Manager
- Duration: 4 min
- On: Web, Mac, iPhone, Android
- Learning Centre: https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/textos-lcap

## Before you start

- Be a manager on the Callizy account.
- Know what the law asks of you. Callizy gives no legal advice: for Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), check with the CRTC.

## Step by step

5 steps, about 4 min.

Screenshots show Callizy in French. Button names are given in English.

### 1. Note each customer’s consent (1 min)

Callizy has no consent box on contacts. Note yourself how the customer gave their consent, for example in a note on their record: see [Contacts, notes and tasks after a call](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/contacts-notes-taches).

### 2. Text one customer at a time (10 s)

Callizy has no bulk texting. Each text goes to one person, from their conversation.

### 3. Sign your automatic texts (2 min)

Callizy adds neither your business name nor “Reply STOP”. Write them yourself in your automatic texts: the **Send a text** block of a flow, the AI agent’s **SMS Actions** and a reference table’s text.

### 4. When a customer replies STOP (10 s)

Texts from that number no longer reach them. If you text them, Callizy shows “This recipient has unsubscribed from your messages.” and the text doesn’t go out.

### 5. Toll-free and the United States (1 min)

A toll-free number must be enabled for texting. A local number that texts the United States must be registered in the Trust center, which asks **How your customers give consent**. See [Texts to the United States and from a toll-free number](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/textos-etats-unis-sans-frais).

## Key points

- Callizy doesn’t check consent: get it before you text.
- Callizy adds nothing to your texts: your business name and the opt-out are yours to write.
- A customer who replies STOP no longer gets texts from that number.

## Settings

- **Texts sent on your behalf**: The **Send a text** block of a flow. The AI agent’s **SMS Actions**. A reference table’s text. An appointment confirmation, per the **Confirmation method**. The fallback text of an AI call campaign. Reread each one.
- **The page for your customers**: The [Text message consent](https://callizy.ca/en/legal/consentement-textos) page explains when a business using Callizy may text, and how to unsubscribe.

## Not working?

### Callizy shows “This recipient has unsubscribed from your messages.”

1. The customer replied STOP to a text from this number.
2. Reach them another way, by phone for example.

### Callizy shows “This number can’t receive text messages.”

1. It is often a landline: call it instead.

### Callizy shows “Text not sent”

1. To a US number: register your number in the Trust center. See [Texts to the United States and from a toll-free number](https://callizy.ca/en/apprendre/textos-etats-unis-sans-frais).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Callizy make my texts CASL-compliant?

No. Callizy sends your texts. Consent, identification and the opt-out remain your responsibility, as the [Terms and Conditions of Sale](https://callizy.ca/en/legal/terms) and the [Acceptable Use Policy](https://callizy.ca/en/legal/aup) say. For the law, check with the CRTC.

### Can I text my whole list at once?

No. Callizy has no bulk texting. Automated sends, through the API, Claude, ChatGPT or Zapier, are limited to 20 texts per minute.

### Where can I see who unsubscribed?

Callizy doesn’t keep that list. The refusal shows when you text.
