Transfer your number from Bell

The account number, the bill and the text to confirm at Bell, also for a Bell Business line.

Role : ManagerDuration : 25 min

Before you start

  • Be the Bell account holder, or authorized for the business.
  • Access to MyBell, or your latest Bell bill.
  • For a cell phone: the phone with its Bell SIM card, turned on, on the day of the transfer.

Step by step

7 steps, about 25 min
  1. 1

    At Bell

    Find your account number

    2 min

It is at the top right of the first page of each bill, just above the account summary. In MyBell, it appears in the bill summary. Copy it digit by digit.

  2. 2

    Download your latest bill

    2 min

In MyBell, open the My bills and payments tab, then the bill you want. Older bills are under Previous bills, with a download icon. The bill must show the account holder’s name, the service address and the numbers to transfer.

  3. 3

    Transfer PIN and IMEI

    1 min

For a cell phone, Canadian carriers ask for only one of these: the account number, the account password or PIN, or the phone’s IMEI. So the account number is enough. Bell did not give you a transfer PIN? Leave the field blank in Callizy. For a landline, what counts is the account holder’s name and the service address: write them as on the bill.

  4. 4

    Under contract? Check your terms

    5 min

Are you under contract? Fees may apply under your terms with Bell: check them in your agreement or with Bell. Without a contract, there are no fees to leave. Voicemail does not follow the number: listen to or write down the messages you want to keep before the transfer.

  5. 5

Keep the line active until the end

    4 to 8 days

Do not cancel anything with Bell: a cancelled number is considered inactive and can no longer be transferred. For a cell phone, keep the Bell SIM card in the phone, turned on: a confirmation text arrives on this number on the day of the transfer. Reply within 90 minutes. For a landline, Bell warns that service may be cut during the transfer, including 911.

  6. 6

    In Callizy

    Do the transfer in Callizy

    10 min

With the account number and the bill, make the request in Callizy. Write “Bell” in Carrier, then the name and address exactly as on the bill. Everything is explained in Transfer your current number to Callizy.

  7. 7

    After the transfer

Once the transfer is complete, close the old service

    5 min

Wait until Callizy writes to tell you the transfer is complete. The Bell service for the transferred number ends with the transfer. To cancel another service, contact Bell. Line on a business mobility account: business customer service, 1-800-667-0123, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern Time). Rented equipment, like a modem, goes back to Bell, not to a Bell store.

Key points

  • Do not cancel anything with Bell before the transfer is complete.
  • The name, address and account number must be exactly those on the Bell bill.
  • For a cell phone, reply to the confirmation text within 90 minutes.
  • The transfer is free with Callizy.

Not working?

Bell refuses the transfer
  1. Compare the account holder’s name, the service address and the account number with those on the Bell bill, letter by letter.
  2. Check that the number is still active with Bell.
  3. In Callizy, open the transfer in Numbers and click “Correct the request”: the request is sent again.
Confirmation text not received
  1. Check that the Bell SIM card is in the phone, turned on, with a signal.
  2. Without a reply within 90 minutes, the request is cancelled. Call the Bell and Virgin Plus validation team at 1-866-756-7039: they can authorize the transfer so the request is sent again. You may be asked to identify yourself.
  3. Then write to support@callizy.ca, with the number concerned.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bell charge for leaving?
Only if you are under contract: check your terms with Bell. With Callizy, the transfer is free.
Can my Bell Business landline move?
Yes, if it is a Canadian number. Bell Business terms provide for the same transfer. An alarm connected to the line must be turned off before the transfer. Internet tied to the line may be cut by the current carrier.
Do my voicemail messages follow?
No. Voicemail does not follow the number. Listen to or write down the messages you want to keep before the transfer.
What about my other Bell services?
The transfer only moves the number: your other Bell services do not follow.
